At a March meeting with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Black-Footed Ferret Conservation Center in Colorado, Scimetrics Ltd Corp re-iterated its support of conservation efforts aimed at reducing the spread of plague in Black-Footed Ferret communities and the prairie dog population needed to sustain them. Updated methods of flea control were discussed as well as possible joint experimental trials in the future. This on-going partnership, dating back to 2010, will continue to look at alternative bait formulations, timing, and methods of application, to best address the challenges of balancing a need for wide-spread application while protecting non-target species. Previous collaboration with the Black-Footed Ferret Conservation Center has provided valuable data for use in development of potential U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service programs to reduce the spread of flea-borne diseases.
