California Ground Squirrel

IDENTIFYING CALIFORNIA GROUND SQUIRRELS

12 to 15 inches in length.
Fur is brownish-gray and speckled with off-white along the back; the sides of the head and shoulders are light gray to white.
While they resemble the tree squirrel, when threatened they will always go into a burrow, not up a tree or structure.
They are active during the day, mainly from mid-morning through late afternoon.
Ground squirrels are primarily herbivorous and live in a burrow system.
They hibernate twice a year – during the winter and during the hottest times of the summer for a few weeks.
Reproduction begins the spring after birth with a 30-day gestation period.
Ground squirrels typically birth one litter per year with five to eight young.

IDENTIFYING WYOMING GROUND SQUIRRELS

Averages 10-15 inches in length, and weighs 9-14 oz. as an adult
Its fur is generally a brownish smoke-gray color, with a dappled pattern of cinnamon-buff.
They construct and live in underground burrows. They also use and improve on the abandoned burrows of other mammals such as prairie dogs and pocket gophers.
Squirrels stay in their burrows at night and during the warmest part of summer days, and when they are threatened by predators. They hibernate in winter time.
Generally 1 litter is produced each year in spring, with 2-10 young per litter.
Wyoming Ground Squirrels prefer green foliage, but also eat dry grasses, seeds/grains and insects.

The insecticide in this product may also act systemically to aid in the reduction of fleas that infest California ground squirrels. The types of fleas that might be controlled include, but are not necessarily limited to, Oropsylla montana and Hoplopsyllus anomalus. Use only for the sites, pests and application methods described on the label. Do not broadcast this product.
